Let's talk about concealer!
I have a very hard time finding makeup colors that actually match my skin tone because it is so light. My foundation (which I LOVE) is Estee Lauder's Double Wear Light in color #1. Even though it is the lightest color, it is still a tad darker than my skin. I have to make it work, though, because it is the only foundation I have found that doesn't cause my skin to break out (and believe me, I've tried a lot of foundations).
So, you would think that the Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer in the lightest color would match the foundation in the lightest color. For some reason, this is not true for me. In the natural light, I could see the concealer on my face and is showed up as orangey-yellow. Eww.
That started my hunt for the "perfect" concealer color. I love Sephora because you can color match yourself using their sample products. I matched Make Up For Ever's HD concealer with the skin tone on my wrist and thought I was set. I forgot, though, that my makeup is slightly darker than my skin tone. Oops! The concealer was too light!
Next, I went to the MAC counter, because I was sure they could color match me there, right? WRONG. The girl slapped an orange concealer on my face, held up a mirror, and asked, "How does that look?" Umm... let's try another. The next step down was white on my face. She assured me that if I put it on under my makeup, it wouldn't show up that light. Okay, I'm going back to Sephora.
I went back to the Make Up For Ever section and found a darker concealer color than I originally purchased. I tried it on my face this time, and in the lights of Sephora, it looked great. Got home and it was a little too dark. Boo!!
Then, an idea occurred to me. What if I mix the colors? And now I have found the perfect shade for my foundation.
I would love to find a concealer that is perfect without mixing- any ideas for a great concealer brand with lots of color options? I'm definitely going to finish out these tubes before repurchasing, but I'd love to hear your ideas!

I just use Revlon's Photo Ready concealer...but I don't know about their light colors. I really like what I have though!
ReplyDeleteI use Boiing concealer by Benefit and it is amazing! They have three shades but even in the winter when I am a lot lighter, their #2 shade still matches! It blends really well and goes on so smoothly which I think helps it not stick out! :) Glad you found something that works so well for you!

ReplyDeleteJet Lag concealer (technically for under eye dark circles) works the BEST for me. I've never found a concealer I like until this one. It's a little pricey but it works. So for me, it's a win. It even works on those darn pimples that pop up out of the blue.
